PRIME RIB DISHCLOTH or SCARF

If you are new to Brioche stitch, this pattern is the easiest one to learn! It is can be a little tricky to make that yarn-
over at the beginning of a row, but once the pattern becomes familiar you can fall into a great rhythm.

This dishcloth/washcloth is based on Brioche rib stitch, or what Elizabeth Zimmerman named “Prime Rib”. One of my
children even set the fundamental “yarn over, slip, knit two together” to the tune of “One little, two little, three little
Indians” to remember it better!

This stitch is naturally very loose, so I’ve tightened it up a bit for the dishcloth by going to smaller needles.

This dishcloth pattern lends itself very well to scarves as well. Just knit it in wool yarn and larger needles, for drape.
The pattern can be worked on any even number of stitches.

SIZE:  About 8 inches wide.

MATERIALS: #4 knitting needles.
Worsted weight cotton yarn.

Cast on 30 stitches loosely (or any even number).

Prep row (do this only once): *YO (yarn over), S1wyib (slip one stitch with yarn in back), K1 (knit 1)*. In other
words, bring the yarn toward you, in front of your work.  Insert your needle into the next stitch as if to purl and slip it
to the right needle (S).  Then as you knit the next stitch (K1), wrap the yarn over the right needle and to the back
(this completes the YO or yarn over).  For the next stitch bring the yarn forward again between the needles, slip as if
to purl, and knit the next stitch while wrapping the yarn to the back. Repeat to the end. Now you will have 45 stitches.

Row 1: *YO, S1wyib, K2tog *  This is the same as the prep row, except you are knitting two together instead of just
knitting one.

Repeat row 1 for pattern until your dishcloth is square.

Bind off in *K1, k2tog*
